Frequently Asked Questions
Where does FLEXI-BAR come from?
FLEXI-BAR has been developed by German Physiotherapists
It is based on a product used for over 15 years to successfully treat a range of neck, shoulder, back, hip and knee problems
How does it work?
FLEXI-BAR uses Vibration Technology to effectively target the deep, stabilising muscles of the body - The Core Muscles.
When the FLEXI-BAR is shaken, a vibration passes through the body, destabilising the spine. This destabilisation forces the deep muscles of the Core (those that surround and support the spine, shoulders and hips ) to work in an effort to maintain the spine's optimal position.
What can the FLEXI-BAR be used for?
FLEXI-BAR training addresses any weaknesses in the muscles of the core. Whenever the bar is shaken, ALL the core muscles are switched on and forced to work.
Injuries or weaknesses in the neck, shoulders, upper back, middle back, lower back, hips, pelvic floor, knees and ankles. (if you are not sure, FLEXI-BAR has a physiotherapist who can answer any questions)
People who want to lose weight. Because FLEXI-BAR activates so much deep muscle fibre, it has a positive effect on post exercise metabolic rate………so you burn more calories!
Special needs groups. FLEXI-BAR has been shown to have a positive effect for people with a variety of conditions including MS, Cerebral Palsy, Paraplegic, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, & arthritis. It is also a great post natal recovery tool.
Sports people: FLEXI-BAR is currently used by Newcastle United FC, The German Winter Olympic Team, FC Bayern Munich, The Austrian Football Association, The German Women's Volleyball & Basketball teams, The Dutch national baseball team and many more.
Who is FLEXI-BAR suitable for?
A FLEXI-BAR weighs only 500 grams, so it can be used by anyone from the age of 14 years and up.
People recovering from injuries (as outlined above)
Inactive people who are new to exercise
Aged and infirm
How often should someone train with FLEXI-BAR? We recommend 2-3 sessions a week for 10-20 mins for maximum results! In a class situation, the FLEXI-BAR will generally be used for a maximum of 20 or so minutes (depending on the group's ability) It is a great way to maintain strength and fitness when a member cannot make it into the gym for their normal workouts. FLEXI-BAR would also make a great gift to get a non-exerciser into exercise that they will actually enjoy !
Contraindications: The FLEXI-BAR is not suitable for:
# DO NOT USE THE FLEXI-BAR if you have: # Acute Rheumatoid Arthritis (inflammation stage) # Acute injuries (new injuries) # Acute Infections/Swelling (new infection/swelling) # Acute Back pain (new, painful injury of back ) - although we recommend that you use FLEXI-BAR for injuries that are chronic and not currently dramatically inflammed. # 3rd Trimester Pregnancy # After a recent Operation # Cardiovascular Disorders
(FLEXI-BAR is generally not recommened for any injuries that are new & inflammed i.e. If you have just injured yourself in an accident of some kind and/or you are in a painful stage of your "chronic" injury - then wait until the pain subsides before you use the FLEXI-BAR) It is important not to swing the FLEXI-BAR too hard as this will cause cracks to appear in the shaft, disrupting the swinging action. The FLEXI-BAR team recommends seeing your physician before starting any exercise programme. |
